Auchtergaven and Moneydie Parish Church
Following a fire in 2004, which destroyed much of their 18th century church building, the congregation decided to embark on an ambitious new build based on the principles of sustanability. The construction of the building incorporates many environmentally friendly features, including the use of a groud source heat pump, which is powered by electiricity generated from two wind turbines. Wherever possible they have used recycled and natural materials in the construction.
In trying to contribute to economic sustainabilty, they have used as many local materials and contractors as possible. The church itself will be used for much more than Sunday worship and incorporates facilitites which will contribute social sustainability: a soft play area, a day care centre for the elderly, space for specialist health sertvices such as podiatry and dentistry (which will save local folk the journey into Perth), a games hall, which will be used by the local school and youth organisations and a youth space and cafe.
