Award

Greenbank Parish Church, Glasgow

22 September 2008
Congratulations to Greenbank Parish Church for achieving anEco-Congregation Award

Greenbank has a broad range of activity in all three spheres of the programme, across many groups and activities within the church, and across all age groups including:

  • recycling - acting as a collection point for a variety of waste streams.
  • encouraging all users of the buildings to use resources sensibily
  • carrying out an energy audit, which identified a number of areas of activity which the church hopes to implement over the coming months and years
  • having inward and outward looking approach to Fairtrade – as well as being Fairtrade registered and using Fairtrade products, the congregation have been urged to use Fairtrade at home, plus church members have been lobbying local shops to stock fairly traded produce.
  • establishing excellent connections with the wider community at all levels:

Locally through the hosting and support of a broad variety of community organisations

Regionally, by supporting Christian Aid and the Lodging House mission

Internationally – through support for the Al Shurooq school for the Blind and the Ekwendeni project in Malawi

The church has often worked in partnership with other churches to deliver this support.
