Kirkwall East Church
The congregation of Kirkwall East have continued their Eco-Congregation work, led by a strong Green team that thoroughly researches issues, actions and costs, before introducing them to the decision making bodies of the church and the congregation as a whole. This has led to positive and sustained action in many different areas.
They have worked to promote Fair Trade, particularly amongst young people by involving the Boys Brigade, Brownies and schools and have strong international links with Ghana and Malawi.
The congregation supports innovative projects such as the medical supplies recycling scheme run in conjunction with the local Chemist and the Emmanuel Trust.
They take care take to source local produce wherever possible: for example jams, bakery products and liquid soap for the dispensers in the kitchen and toilets.
Waste is minimised by using recycled paper and through the purchase of large containers of soap and cleaning materials and dispensing them into smaller ones.
